Lift-off for Stillwood

Web Design No Comments

The Stillwood experience is always uplifting, but their website needed major elevation.

The old Stillwood website had far too much copy and a lot of out-dated information. The navigation was extremely convoluted, making it very hard for users to find specific information. The images on the site were too small to get the true scope of the breathtaking location. In short, the site was doing Stillwood a complete disservice.

Renata Sherwin of Inkling was brought in to deal with the mammoth task of wading through mountains of copy, in order to pull out the vital messaging that was relevant to the end-user. A photo shoot was set up with Rob Campbell.  As usual, Justin art-directed.

The aim was to show off the spectacular location, as well as a wide demographic getting lost in the fun that is Stillwood. While this was going on, the site map was being stripped down and honed. The thinking behind the design was to create an air of sophistication. It also had to appeal to kids, parents and, in particular, businesses, as that was a new market Stillwood wanted to break into in the next few years.

There was a lot to communicate, so the framework was kept to a fairly simple grid. The logo was stripped of its burgundy colour and put onto a grey badge. The forest green was swung to a fresher lime green, giving the logo a more contemporary feel. As an added bonus, a custom weather feed was designed on the top right of the page, allowing visitors to watch the local weather before setting out for their camp, conference or retreat.

Finally, a robust proprietary content management system was developed, to allow the client to make their own changes. The result was a site that immediately garnered much praise from visitors, got information to those who needed it when they needed it and continues to generate impressive results in Google Analytics.
